Masculinity contest culture reduces organizational citizenship behaviors through decreased organizational identification.

چکیده

Masculinity contest culture encourages fierce competition and race for status at all costs. Across three experiments (Ntotal = 554), we investigated how masculinity affects discretionary performance work (i.e., organizational citizenship behaviors). Compared to an alternative feminine nurturing culture), participants in the condition reported lower levels of behaviors toward organization its members. Further results showed that diminished individuals’ intentions engage through reduced identification. We did not find a moderating effect gender, suggesting thwarts identification both women men.
